Seventh grade has given me many fun memories, but here are three. The first one is when I got to see a friend that was from outside of school that came to my school to play in the volleyball scrimmages. At first I was thinking that no way this could be the same girl, but then I remember her telling me that she is in seventh grade. This was one of those things that you don’t expect and it can be one of the awesome things you look back on. The second is when I got the H pass and for the first time got to sit outside. It’s something that I never thought about doing, yet it turned out to be really fun to sit with my friends and to laugh and talk without having the teachers to quiet down. The last memory is when I checked the board to see if my team is winning in the olympic teams and we are. In fact we are stilling winning. (At least so far.) If you look at the score from all the other periods too, you would see that’s we are beating every single team. It just felt so good to see all my efforts pay off. This year not have been the easiest or the most fun, yet it will still forever hold a place in my heart.
Almost done – 20% Project, Week #6
For this week we all got our boards for the presentations and started to work on them. The main struggles for this week were the fact that there was no glue and I had to go around looking to borrow a glue bottle from someone. I was able to accomplish gluing down pieces of colored paper for my back drop and then I got started on my presentation speech. When I waiting for the glue I also did a card trick that I have learned in elementary school. This week was pretty slow and didn’t do anything other than that. I also got my slide full of photos together for Miss. Moffat to print out the next week when I can glue in on my poster board. For the next week I will be working on my poster board and the speech that goes with it. Although I am not looking forward to the presentation in front of the class.
Be Grateful For What You Have
For this blog I am doing it off of the picture below and what I interpret. This picture to me is showing that the boy on the left has all these toys and lives in a nice house, yet he is crying. It looks like he is complaining about what he has like it isn’t good enough or isn’t what he wants. On the other hand, the boy on the right is playing around and having fun with his one toy and is happy. Unlike the other boy he doesn’t seem to live as comfortable, yet he is happy and isn’t complaining about not getting or having this or that. To me this symbolizes that you should be grateful about what you have and to realize that some people aren’t as fortunate. To complain it shows that you don’t care and that you not grateful. If you consider that what you have is enough then you wouldn’t be wanting more than what you already have.
Still Going – 20% Project Week #5
For this week I have still been braiding. Yeah, I know that this nothing different from what I have been doing this whole time. To be honest there isn’t much to report on other than the fact that I didn’t work on the french fishtail. Instead I worked on one dutch braid down the back. Now at first I thought this is going to be easy something that will take very little time, right? I couldn’t be more wrong! The struggles that I made was the fact that I had so many bumps and had trouble getting the hair to stay flat down because of the way it had been trained the stay down in a certain way. I adjusted to that and tried to brush the hair with my fingers with did help. I continued to do that and worked on two of my friends who were really kind about everything. I was able to accomplish the dutch braid and was able to also end just before the bell. For the next time I will be working on the french fishtail.
Down below is the one dutch braid down the back.
Rad Reading – May
For this month I have read Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger. This book is about a girl named Sophie who was living in the human realm up until Fitz came to find her. Fitz who is an elf showed Sophie that because of being able to hear thoughts she too is an elf. Throughout the book she is learning how to live in the lost cities and dealing with strange notes that she keeps getting. She also has to deal with a mysterious group called the Black Swan.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a fantasy world and mystery notes. This book not only has that, but also has a kidnapping and drama between friends as Sophie adjusts to the new place. This book is something that I can keep coming back to read again. This book has up to 10 books in the series and is a type of story that is hard to put down. This first book is a whirlwind of excitement and actioned packed with a lot of fun twists along the way.
My favorite character from this book is Sophie. She is my favorite character because she is really brave. She was able to move to the lost cities from her human life. She was able to do this with a brave face on even though it hurt her a lot having to lose her human family. A quote to prove this “‘they won’t even know you exist. Wouldn’t that be too painful?’ A single tear slipped down her cheek. ‘Yes. But only for me. For them…’ She squared her shoulders and set her jaw. ‘It’s the best thing for them.’”
My favorite quote in the book is “‘Um… slight accident in my alchemy session.’ Keefe mimed a huge explosion, complete with sound effects. ‘Destroyed Galvin’s cape’” This is my favorite quote because it shows how Sophie became popular at school and how, a small problem in her class can become a really funny joke to all the other teachers and students. This was just one of the moments that you laugh out loud and really enjoy what is going on in the book.
Things to Change – 20% Project Week #4
For this week I have continued to try to do the waterfall braid and well I failed. It took me almost the whole period before I gave up. Yes, I know I shouldn’t give up, but this was taking too long and I don’t want this project to be the only one thing. So yeah, I adjusted to another hairstyle which I’m not really sure what it’s called, but I think it’s called and french fishtail. It’s pretty much a fishtail expect for the fact that you have to pull in hair and braid just like a french braid. This week I did have some struggles with the waterfall braid. To me it just wasn’t clicking and it was really hard to remember the steps and how to do the braid. Same with the french fishtail, I also had some struggles. The hair wasn’t all neat and perfect like I would want to be, but still turned out nicely. My friend Aubrey is also doing hairstyles and can do the fishtail with ease. I’m hoping that with practice it to will become neater and quicker to do. Yes I know that practice makes perfect if I just keep doing the waterfall braid, but don’t want to do only one thing and for it to take all my time. I am really happy though that the french fishtail didn’t turn to bad and that it not that hard once you get the hang of it. I am going to continue to work on the french fishtail and to work hard. The photo below is a picture of the french fishtail.
The Best Room Ever!
My favorite room in my house is the living room. This room is perfect for a few reasons. First off, the living is the best room because it has a tv in the room and has a really comfy couch to sit on and watch tv. Second reason is because it is right next to the kitchen so I can get up and grabs snack really fast. In my house the living room is in the front of the house and also kind of in the middle of the house. The last reason is the fact that I am in the front of the house where I can look out the window to see if a package has been delivered or if a person has come by. This room is also a room that my cats come by frequently so I won’t be alone in that room unlike if I was in my room. The living room in my house is the best room there is.
What a Look – 20% Project Week #3
For the third week of the 20% project I decided to move on from dutch braiding. I have always thought that the hairstyle called waterfall is pretty and looked easy to do. Boy was I wrong. This took pretty much the whole seventh period to get it right. Even then it looked like a mess and at the beginning it didn’t have the waterfall. I didn’t really know how it worked so I searched for a photo to demonstrate how it is done. I was starting to get pretty frustrated so I adjusted and moved around that. I tried to mesmerized the photo and its steps and slowly got the hang of it. The struggle that I got caught up in was the fact that when I let go of part of the braid to create that waterfall look, it would turn the braid and that was a problem. I was able to just pull the strand of hair that I let go of and that just fixed the problem. I was so happy when it started to come together and was able to kind of accomplish the waterfall braid. The photo below is my second try to the waterfall braid. I’m happy to what I have been able to do, but for the next time I want to work on perfecting it.
Rad Reading – March
For this month I have read the book Stargazing by Jen Wang. This book is about a girl named Christine who is renting their extra house to a new family. This family has a girl named Moon who is Christine’s age and goes to her school. Over time these two girls become friends and hangout with each other after school. There is a talent show happening at their school and Moon wants to dance with Christine and a couple of friends from school. Moon talks to Christine about having visions of celestial beings and saying that her home is in the stars. Little do they know that they don’t know the true meaning of what is going on behind the visions.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about drama between friends and about friendship itself. This book can teach you that friends are something that are important and to be there for them when things go out of order. You could also find many parts in which you agree with or went through yourself.
My favorite character in this book is Moon. She is my favorite character because she owns who she is and is okay with it. She tells Christine that she isn’t meant to be here and just owns that she belongs in the stars. She isn’t scared to let Christine know. Quote from Moon to show this is “They think I’m bad. What else do they wanna know?”
My favorite quote from the book is “Stay behind me…… I’ve heard things about the girl. She might be mean.” This quote is my favorite because it shows that Christine is scared of Moon at first, but in the end they are the best of friends. It also shows the love between the sisters and how Christine is protecting her sister, just how I would with my own.
Off to a Great Start – 20% Project Week #2
For the second week of my 20% project I kept on with my hairstyling. Hairstyling is proving to be a little challenging, yet a lot of fun. This week’s struggles are the fact that the hair is really messy when pulling it through to create the dutch braid. Thankfully though the dutch braid turned out really well and overall looked pretty neat. For this week I decided to focus on braiding and did one dutch braid on one side and then a french braid on the other to compare. I thought that the Dutch braid looked more raised and was really proud to see what I could accomplish. For the next week I will be working on my list of who wants their hair braided and on making sure that the hair stays neat and doesn’t get to tangled. I want to be able to work on other people’s hair to get a feel of different hair and not just the same. This is a photo of my process.
